In the Third Age of Middle-earth, Thorin Oak Shield and his company of Dwarfs arrived at the lair of a troll in Rhudaur. There they found an ancient Elvish sword called Orcrist, forged by the High Elves of the West in Gondolin. Thorin demanded Orcrist for himself. He wielded the sword in pursuit of Erebor, using it against the Orcs of the Misty Mountains. The orcs knew her as a “bite” and was hated and feared by these creatures
Orcrist’s blade has a curved shape on one side, and a straight edge on the other, a design appropriate for a blade designed to decapitate orcs. The pommel is adorned with an emblem of Ecthelion heraldry. The hilt is shaped like the teeth of a dragon.
The inscriptions on the sword with elven runes say:
In the handle is the name Orcrist “orco-blade “.
Inscription on the sheet (both sides): “snake tooth “.
